😕 I ran to the store last night here in Bonners Ferry after the sun had set. It’s the first week of January. Air temperature was mid-40s and it had rained heavily all day. I noticed there were what looked like ice-crystal-sparkles on the streets. This did not make sense. While still on the side streets and with no-one around, I did a little brake check. Sure enough, the rattle of the ABS (anti-lock braking system) kicked in because…it was icy. Black ice is deceptive. It is clear and looks just like wet pavement. Except for those few crystals blowing the cover of the extremely slippery surface. “How could it be icy?” I wondered. My best guess is that the very cold temps from a weeks ago dropped the temperature of the ground enough to withstand a little warmer air temperature and dropped it cold enough to freeze the rain–similar to how an ice rink functions. My rig is now a zamboni. 😆
🤔 This completely irrelevant to website management post has everything to do with northern Idaho on a particular weird-weather day. Idaho is where I actually work on managing websites and content production for companies in Colorado, Arizona, and Oregon. I do this little writing exercise every few years to experiment and demonstrate local search engine prowess. And these days, AI search is part of that endeavor. Sometimes this one-off experiment works…other times not so much.
The story above is indeed true and you can verify by checking the weather and road reports from yesterday, even early this morning. In fact, local emergency dispatch was calling out for the road crews to treat various bridges in the area due to the dangerous ice. I could have filmed it if I knew ahead of time what was going to happen.
Having spent the weekend cooped up inside publishing content to other websites, I take a few minutes today to update my own website. But not with content for something technical (like our AI articles). Today’s focus is on something super local and relevant geographically. Even meteorologically. You can do this too you know. In fact you should do it for your own website visibility. I can help you if you don’t know where to start. I can help if you know where to start and just don’t have the time! After some proof reading and some editing, I’ll go through a check list and then click the WordPress “Publish” button. If you find this and have read this far, and especially if you don’t even need website related work, send me a quick message on my contact form or via social platforms. Thank you from northern Idaho!
